Smokers! If you smoke, your quality of life is lower - and it will only get
worse - never better!
Look at these facts.
Smoking kills around six times more people than all other killers put together!
Road traffic accidents (3,391), other accidents (8,933), poisoning and overdose (3157),
murder and manslaughter (495), suicide (4,485), and HIV infection (180).
Every year, around 120,000 smokers in the UK die as a result of their habit.
Half of all regular cigarette smokers will be killed by their habit.
Smoking causes around 90% of lung cancer deaths, 17% of all heart disease deaths
and at least 80% of deaths from bronchitis and emphysema. And 30% of deaths from
all types of cancer.
It is estimated that several hundred cases of lung cancer and several thousand cases
of heart disease in non-smokers in the UK are caused by passive smoking - breathing
other people's tobacco smoke. Tobacco smoke contains over 4,000 chemical compounds,
which are present either as gases or as tiny particles.
Smokers stink of stale smoke! Smokers don't notice it - but other people do!
Smokers' houses stink of stale smoke - they don't notice it, but others do!
A big majority of home fire accidents start because of lighted cigarettes.
Smokers' children suffer ill-health because of their parents' addiction.
Smokers' children are deprived of their parents at an early age, or spend years having
to look after - and worry about - parents who are seriously or terminally ill. Is
this what you want for your child?
Smoking causes diseases never suspected before, including cataracts, acute myeloid
leukemia and cervical, kidney, pancreatic and stomach cancers.
In fact, smoking affects just about every organ of the body.
The toxins from cigarette smoke go everywhere the blood flows.
"I'm hoping this new information will help motivate people to quit smoking and convince
young people not to start in the first place." says a US expert.
Saliva contains antioxidants, molecules that normally protect the body against cancer,
but it has been discovered that cigarette smoke destroys the molecules and turns
saliva into a dangerous compound.
"Our study shows that once exposed to cigarette smoke, our normally healthy saliva
not only loses its beneficial qualities but it turns traitor and actually aids in
destroying the cells of the mouth and oral cavity," said Dr Rafi Nagler, of the Technion-Israel
Institute of Technology in Haifa, Israel.
'Smoking ages and destroys the skin' - Chief Medical Officer, British Government.
People who smoke have no respect for their body - how can they expect anybody to
respect them?
